Seven Things You Should Never Do While In Nairobi

Nairobi is a friendly city to live in but there are certain things that if you do, might land you in trouble with the local authorities.

Some of those things that might land you on the wrong side of the law include;

Block your drainage

No matter how awful your drainage stings, it is illegal for you to clean it. According to the law, it is the job of the county officials to clean the drainage, therefore, cleaning it may land you in jail.

Blow your nose

Squeezing out your running nose in public can land you in trouble. Nairobi county laws require you to use a suitable cloth or tissue to clean your nose.

Hawk without a badge 

Hawking without a badge in Nairobi can lead you to a lot of trouble. Whether you are hawking boiled eggs or electric supplies, the law requires you to have a badge and must wear it at a conspicuous place.

Wash your car anywhere

Never wash your car or repair it outside a building. Unless it is an emergency, it is illegal to wash, repair or dismantle your car in a prohibited area

Collects your garbage 

Collecting or burning those dirty garbages in your compound is illegal in the city. As a resident of Nairobi city, you are required to have a sizeable container with a good lid for keeping your domestic waste.

Harvesting rainwater 

No matter who long it takes for you to have taps water running in your home, you cannot harvest rainwater in Nairobi. This is because it is illegal to do so.

Drag your suitcase on the tarmac 

If you just arrived in the city from the countryside and you feel tired, dont drug your suitcase or traveling bag on the Nairobi’s tarmaced roads. It is illegal to do so.

According to the law, dragging your suitcase on the tarmac is damaging the road and obstructing other pedestrians from access the road. This also includes use of pulling hand carts and skateboards.
