Family Of The Late Gen. Francis Ogolla Honors His Burial Wish

The family Of the late Chief of Defense Forces Gen Fred Ogolla announced that he will be buried on Sunday April 21, 2024.

The senior military official will be buried at his home in Ng’iya, Alego Usonga in Siaya county.

In a statement announcing the funeral plans, the family revealed that it was Ogolla’s wish to be buried in under 72 hours after his death.

“In honour of his humble nature, General Ogolla specified that his burial occurs within 72 hours of his passing, echoing the profound truth that from dust we came and to dust we shall return.

“His family has dutifully chosen Sunday, April 21, 2024, for his final farewell, to be held at his cherished home in Mor, Alego, Siaya County,” the family stated.

“Let us gather, to celebrate the life of a General who dedicated his life to service, love, generosity and devotion that touched us all deeply. We appreciate your prayers and support during this difficult time,” the statement further read.

The family further said that Ogolla’s demise came at a time he was to travel in Siaya county to celebrate the birthday of his father Joel Oketch who is turning 100 years old this Saturday.

Ogolla died on Thursday, together with 9 other military officers after being involved in a chopper crash in the North Rift, where they had gone for official duty.

Only two officers survived the accident.

President William Ruto announced that the Airforce has dispatched a team that will investigate the cause of the deadly crash.

Ogolla becomes the first Chief of Defense Forces to die while in office. He ascended into the office in April 28, 2023 taking over from Gen. Robert Kibochi whose term of service had ended.

Ogolla’s deputy, Charles Muriu will now serve as the CDF in acting capacity until the position is filled.
