Myths About Witchcraft In Kisii You Must Know

The Gusii are one of the largest communities in Kenya. Traditionally, there are a lot of things that have been associated with the communities whether good or bad.

The Kisiis are known for their hardworking nature as well as their love of bananas.

Even though there are a lot of good things about the community, there are some myths that stain its imagine. And one of those myths is one relating to witchcraft and sorcery.

For a long time, the Kisiis have been associated with witchcraft something that has made some people fear the community. While those from the community fear going back to their ancestral home with the fear of being bewitched.

Here are some of the myths associated with witchcraft in Kisii;

Witches can manipulate animals

It is believed that the switches from this region are so good at what they do that they can even manipulate animals. It is said that they can even turn a cat into a paper bag or any other object. So next time when you visit Kisii town, be careful not to kick a plastic bag, you might be kicking a cat, on light through.

It is also believed that these witches can manipulate animals such as bats to send messages of bad omen or warn of impending danger.

One can inherit witchcraft

Unless there is a spiritual intervention, people in Kisii believe that witchcraft can be inherited from one generation to the other.

It is believed that witches trained their children and grandchildren about witchcraft to ensure continuity within the community.

Witches use hyenas for transport.

It is also alleged that witches from Kisii ride on hyenas to move from one place to another at night.

Witches hunt for human blood at night

The fear of darkness among the Gusii people has largely been attributed to the myth that witches always pray for their victims at night.

Witches have elections and keep records of their bewitching 

It is believed that witches from this community are so civilized that they keep records of their bewitching, hold meetings among themselves and keep records of their meetings.

In their meetings, they have their chairman, and group leaders are selected depending on how powerful the witches are.
