Five Kenyan Celebrities Who Are Openly Gay

As the world continues to open about transgender and homosexuality, many people have continued to publicly talk about their sexuality and gender identity.

Though Kenya has to legalized same-sex marriage or relationships, the country has continued to witness an increase in conversation about homosexuality. Some of the people who have led the conversation in the country are celebrities.

As days go by, a lot of Kenyan celebrities have continued to come out as gay and push the government to legalized same-sex marriage. Some of those celebrities who have come out as gay include;

Makena Njeri 

After years of speculation that she was gay, former Tahidi High actress Kamena Njeri in May, this year came out as is gay.

Speaking about her journey to her identity, Makena revealed how for a long time she struggled to live a normal life.

“At 19 years old, coming to the city, I wanted to act and become a superstar featuring in different TV shows. But I knew for a fact that the battles I had been going through as a teenager will be tested in this city. I realized that what society wanted me to take wasn’t the case for humanity and me,” she told TedX on behalf of TedX Parklands.

“I remember for the first time in my life after very many years looking at myself in the mirror and I said to myself, I am gay, I am unique and this is my truth.”

Actress Njambi 

Real Househelp of Kawagware actress Njeri Gachomba alias Njambi is the latest celebrity to speak about her support for the LGBTQ community.

Speaking to a local YouTube channel, Njambi revealed her experience with a lady with whom she had a relationship as she talked about her sexual orientation.

At the show, the actress revealed that the only time she felt loved is when she was in a romantic relationship with an unnamed woman in high school.

“I have never shared this with anyone but people who have known me my entire life wanajua. In high school, I used to date someone but then we broke up. When I got Tamara ilimuaffect sana because huyu ni msee tumedate na yeye for so many years. Mimi huambia wasee hii ndio love mimi najua. Mwanaume hajawai nipea love kama hiyo. That was my true love and that is what I call love. Tulisemwa na nikapewa X when I was in high school because I was dating a woman,” the mother of one said.

Noti Flow

Noti Flow is another openly gay celebrity who has never shied about her love life. On her social media, the Kenyan rapper has on several occasions revealed how she is madly in love with girlfriend Armaan Bux Mushtak Alami.

Anita Nderu 

The media personality in the past revealed that she has faced discrimination for being a member of the LGBTQ community. On several occasions, Anita Nderu has been vocal in supporting the rights of those who identify themselves as gay or transgender
