How To Apply For A Passport In Kenya

With the digitalization of most government services, the application of passports in Kenya has become as simple as never before.

Depending on the type of passport you want to apply for, you no longer need to visit government offices looking for an officer’s signature or rubber stamp. Nowadays all you need to do is login into the government website and fill the application form.

Before we indulge deeper on who you can apply for a passport we will first look at various passport types you can apply for and the fee charged for each of them.

Applying to a Kenyan passport

You can apply for a new passport or a replacement online at a fee that can also be paid online.

To make the online application you will need to register on the government website; www.ecitizen.go.ke. After signing in to the website you will go to immigration.ecitizen.go.ke and or Department of immigration services and click on the passport application form.

Once you click on the passport application, go through the instruction given before you start filling the form. Once you are through with the form choose the mode of payment you would wish to use to pay for the passport fee. You can choose to pay through mobile money, Credit, Debit Cards, or online banking from local banks.

It is important to note that you Must download and print the application form once you are through with the payment. You will do the same with the three application receipts.

Once you have paid the fee, you will be allowed to download the form. Once you download it sign and date it.

You will then take the application form together with any other documents or photographs needed in-person to the Immigration offices near you.

Once you submit the form to the immigration office, it will take about 10 working days for your first passport to be ready. However, it can take longer if there is more information needed or you did not fill your application correctly.

Note: While submitting your application form, you will also be needed to submit the following documents;

  • An eCitizen pre-filled passport application form and three receipts.
  • Original birth certificate and photocopy.
  • Original National ID Card & copy.
  • Three Current passport-size photos.
  • Recommender’s ID Card copy.
  • Consent letter for minors.
  • Old passport for replacement.
  • Parents National ID cards and copy.
