Kenyan Village With Highest Number Of Billionaires

A village in Murang’a county prides itself as the richest locality in Kenya. This is due to the fact that it a home of some of the wealthiest men in the country.

Rwathia village in Kangema, Murang’a county pays homeage to over five billionaires in the country. Some of the billionaires from the village include;

Peter Munga

Peter Munga, the former chairman of the Equity Group is one of the billionaires that hails from this village. Munga is the founder of Equity Bank and has stake in the bank. He also has shares in Nairobi Security Exchange firm.

James Mwangi

James Mwangi, another Equity Bank co-founder, also hails from this village. Dr. Mwangi considered one of the people who revolutionarized the banking sector.

The businessman owns stake in Equity Bank whih is estimated to about Ksh.5 billion. He also has other shars in Britam worth Ksh.650 million. Other than the banking sector, the Equity CEO also have stake in several other companies in Kenya worth millions of shillings.

John Kibunga Kimani

John Kibunga is one of the billionaires that have opted to live a private life. He is difficult to find in the media as other billionaires.

Despite his private life, he is a big name in the business world. Kimani reportedly owns over 30 percent stage in Kakuzi Limited. His stake in the company would be rounded off to about Ksh.2 billion. He is also said to have shares at Nationa Media Group worth Ksh.400 million. His other shares at NSE firms.

Chris Kirubi

The late Chris Kirubi was one of the most famous billionaires in the country, thanks to his social life. The late businessman had a vast empire of businesses across all sector of the economy. His stake at Centum Investments at one point was valued at Ksh.6 billion some times back while those at NSE stood at Ksh.12 billion. Other than the two, Kirubi had stakes in companies such as DHL Kenya,  International House, Bayer East Africa, Nairobi Bottlers and Capital Media Group among other.

Jimnah Mbaru

Jimna Mbaru is also another respected son of Rwathia village. The businessman has stakes in companies listed on NSE worth billion.

He has also made a name for himselve through his Dyer & Blair Investment Bank.

Benson Wairegi

Benson Wairegi is the Managing Director of the British-American Investments Company (Britam). The son of Rwathia also own stake in Britam worth Ksh.900 million or more. He also have stake in other stock market in NSE’s listed companies such as Equity Bank and Housing Finance among other. His investment is said to be worth over Ksh.100 billion
