Gloria Mutuku apparently became delusional while working as a domestic worker in the Gulf country.
The family has asked the government for assistance in flying the remains home for the funeral.
“We are opposed to a plan by the agent to have Gloria buried in Saudi Arabia. Such a move will haunt the family forever. We are requesting the government to intervene and help us transfer the body home for burial,” says James Kituna, Gloria’s uncle.
Gloria’s home in Makueni County’s Kambili Village was busy with activity on Wednesday as friends, relatives, and neighbors attempted to confront their grief with her death.
Gloria’s death is unfortunate and came in at a time when government officials are concerned about the welfare of Kenyans working in Saudi Arabia. She was only five months into the job.
Ms Grace Wachuru, the agent who connected Gloria to her job, revealed the sad and heartbreaking news on Tuesday.
The family has lost their breadwinner, “Because we are orphans, we anticipated Gloria to be the backbone of our family. “We anticipated her to earn enough money to educate her siblings, build us good houses, and lift the family out of poverty,” Eunice Ndinda, her sister, says.
“We talked practically every day for the five months she was in Saudi Arabia. She has always been cheerful. However, when she last spoke to us on Christmas Day, she excused herself from our normal communication schedule. She claimed to be ill. “She mentioned she had a headache and an eye problem,” says Elizabeth Mwende, who is also a sister to Gloria.
