Sad Story Of Minor Forced To Preach In Streets To Provide For His Ailing Family

A 12-year old boy from Chavakali has been forced to preach in matatus and market places as a way of raising money to help his family.

Jacob Nestor Yalwala dropped out of school and is currently involved with preaching the word of God so that he can provide for his sick father and grandmother.

In an interview with Tuko News, Nestor revealed that his father survived a stroke in 2014 after his mother passed away.

“Just look at how the situation is in this family, if I stay at home we’d have nothing which means we’d sleep hungry. Who would provide it if not me?” Nestor posed.

Nestor says that he visits different markets to preach and pray for people before requesting them for money. He sometimes makes trips to Kisumu and Kakamega .

He is able to provide for his family from what he collects as offering.

“They give me as little as five shillings, which I collect and bring home at the end of the day,” he said.

According to the 12-year old, his grandmother prays for him daily before he embarks on his journey. It was also his grandmother who told him about the death of his mother.

“My mom died a long time ago, but for a long while, relatives lied to me that she was in Nairobi working. It is my grandma who finally told me the truth,” he said.

Nestor revealed that he dropped out of school after his uncle decided to take him to a special school yet he does not have any impairment.

He said that he was taken out of a normal school because his teachers complained that he was too talkative as compared to his peers.

He added that his uncle John Kavai does not agree with him preaching and therefore he has to hide whenever they meet.

The uncle provides the family with food once in a while however Nestor is afraid that he will one day stop doing and that is why he will not stop preaching.

Nestor is however hopeful that his father will one day recover and go back to work to provide for the family.
