Former Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu was on Sunday night involved in a grisly road accident at Kavenge area, Kitui County.
The accident occurred just moments after Mutambu left Enziu river accident scene where over 30 people lost their lives after a bus that was ferrying them to a wedding ceremony of an elderly couple on Saturday plunged into the river.
Mutambu was on his way to Nairobi with three others when the car they were travelling in rammed into a tractor and rolled several times thus killing their driver on the spot.
The survivors were rushed to the Matuu level four hospital for treatment while the body of the deceased was transferred to Mwingi Level Four hospital morgue.
The former MP had joined Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu among other leaders at River Enziu in Ndune village,Mwingi central, to show support and solidarity to the local community following Saturday’s tragedy.
Mutambu is said to have lost a number of relatives when the St. Joseph Seminary Mwingi bus plunged in water, and left for Nairobi after the bus was retrieved.
It is alleged that the MP received a hostile reception from the locals.
According to a survivor of the bus accident Simon Kea, the driver had spent close to two hours contemplating on whether to cross the flooded bridge.
The driver only gained confidence to cross the bridge after a matatu and a lorry successfully crossed to the other side.
