It’s celebration galore after police gunned down a notorious leader of the infamous Katombi criminal gang that has been terrorizing residents of Starehe sub-county in Nairobi.

Katombi gang which operated from Mathare slums terrorized residents with impunity staging broad daylight robberies across the Mathare valley and neighboring estates.

The Proverbial 40 days of a thief finally reached for Katombi gang on Tuesday December 7th after they attacked a pedestrian at gunpoint and took away his mobile phone and other valuables.

The gang’s leader Ngaruiya together with four of his accomplices carried out the broad daylight robbery and didn’t even bother to flee.

“So brave was Ngaruiya and his Katombi mates one of whom was identified as Kabuda, that they staged the attack at 4 pm along Mau Mau road in Bondeni, Mathare sub-county,” DCI tweeted.

Police got wind of the attack and a contingent of crime busters drawn from DCI Starehe were immediately dispatched to pursue the Katombi gang.

The thugs who didn’t know that they were being trailed, continued with their brazen attacks against other innocent civilians.

After two hours of searching for them, the DCI team caught up with the criminals deep inside the informal settlement, adjacent to the river.

A chase ensued as the detectives launched their assault against the gang members after they defied orders to stop. They ran in different directions, Ngaruiya fired at the fast approaching team of cops forcing them to fire back.

Ngaruiya was ultimately shot and fatally wounded by the crime busters drawn from DCI Starehe. He succumbed to his injuries before being taken to hospital.

The four remaining thugs dived into the river infested with raw sewage and swam downstream to save their skin.
