Celebs are quitting or planning to quit their jobs en masse, it started with Maina Kageni, then Jalang’o, Kambua and now Alex Mwakideu.
It has now also emerged that the celebrated Milele FM presenter is also retiring from radio just like his colleagues.
Alex Mwakideu shocked his fans on Saturday, January 15th when he announced that his time on radio is soon coming to an end.
Just like his longtime friend Jalang’o, Alex Mwakideu is quitting his radio job to join politics to contest for a parliamentary seat in Taita Taveta county.
“I’m someone that the Taita people know because I have houses in Voi, Wundanyi and they know me plus there’s respect at home. When you have that, people will always ask you to lead different places,” Mwakideu said.
Mwakideu differed with those thinking his move to join politics is ill informed, he stressed that he is not afraid of taking risks.
The radio host added he was not that much interested in leadership, but his heart wanted to serve the people of Taita Taveta and make them happy.
He said he wanted to push the people’s agenda and did not want them to suffer and continue to be lied to.
Mwakideu will quit early enough before the August 9th general election to allow him ample time to campaign.
He said January was his last full month on Milele FM, and as instructed his final day might be on February 9th.
Mwakideu joins his longtime friend Jalang’o who is also quitting Kiss FM to vie for Langata parliamentary seat in Nairobi.
Other celebrities quit their jobs to do something different other than join politics. Kambua quit Citizen TV on Sunday January 16th but she didn’t reveal where she is headed.
In December 2021, Maina Kageni announced that he will be retiring from Classic FM to relocate to US where he will be running a club.
