Legendary rapper Colonel Mustafa has come out to narrate how he found himself in the circumstance that he is in now after a flourishing music career.
Speaking to Mungai Eve, Mustafa said that his life took a turn for the worse when he decided to play a role in the popular reality series, Nairobi Diaries, and when the Covid pandemic hit the world, he lost everything.
“The biggest issue began during corona, I lost many things, and went totally broke but there was one, two. I was very Miserable that my friend in Ruai hosted me for 10 months. He helped me so much. After there, I tried but things were very tough. It is like music has not been doing well on my side. Every time I release a song it doesn’t perform well. 9 months ago I released a song after saving for about two years. I hoped that it would help me, but it flopped,” Mustafa said.
Soon after, his mother’s sickness came in, forcing him to hustle hard so that he could be able to take care of her.
“At that time my mother’s sickness came in. I started suffering, I didn’t have money for food. I didn’t know where to turn to because I had a family. Challenges began between Nairobi diaries and corona. Corona killed everything. I found myself in mjengo. It was not my will, it was because of my mother. I had to help because without her, I don’t know.
“I wanted this thing to be a secret because it would have broken me had it come out. There was a time I tried asking help from friends and they started sharing the screenshots, I did a lot to stop that. This round it got me off-guard I didn’t know what to do,” Mustafa said.
Mustafa noted that he doesn’t earn from his previous hit songs because he doesn’t own their copyrights. He however admits that music helped him a lot especially because he used to hold concerts back then.
The rapper is asking well-wishers to support him to get a better job and make a living for his family.
