Education Cabinet secretary (CS) George Magoha in a regretful tone has revealed that he never wanted to be in charge of the education docket.
While speaking at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) on Tuesday, August 17, Mr. Magoha said that Cabinet Secretary (CS) had never been his first choice. He was releasing University and Colleges placement results for the year 2020/2021.
According to Magoha, the only reason why he took that job of education CS was because of the prevailing circumstances at the Ministry of education in the year 2019.
To reiterate his point, Magoha used the example of accepting a job he did not want in a bid to encourage last year’s KCSE candidates to accept alternative university and college choices if they don’t get their preferred choices.
“If you missed out on Medicine, go and do public health which is nearer to medicine rather than do anthropology which you will go and pursue at the university for nothing,” suggested the CS.
Kenyans.co.ke reported that Magoha also said about 7,000 students did not apply for placement to universities and colleges, and will therefore not be placed.
He revealed that out of the 10,437 secondary schools that were registered examination centres in 2020, only 2,506 (24 percent) submitted their KCSE candidates’ choices.
