Nollywood Actress Rita Dominic Opens Up On Why She Temporarily Quit Acting

Rita Dominic captured the attention of not only Nigerians but the whole of Africa and the world t large because of her remarkable roles in Nollywood movies.

Unfortunately, she decided to put her talent to rest and even relocated to London, never looking back at her stardom and influence she had put on her audiences.

In a recent event in Ghana, she however recalled how she was forced to turn her back on a world that gave her prominence and fame.

According to her, she took a break from the movie industry in 2001-2002 after falling out with friends.

“Many of you don’t know that in 2001-2002 I stopped acting and left the Industry. I moved to London because it was a very dark period in my life,” the actress said. “I fell out with some people I considered family, and so I needed to get out of that space for a minute. Then I moved to London and gave up stardom. You never leave it.”

In London, while trying to make ends meet, Rita Dominic got a job as a caregiver for adults with special needs.

“While some might view it as a step-down, I don’t. Taking care of others brought me joy and purpose at the time I needed it most because remember I took care of my mother and my father when they were ill because I was alone with them,” the 48-year old admitted.

She further said that she returned to Nigeria and attempted to make a come-back in the movie industry but she faced so many hurdles.

“Before I decided to become a producer and form our company, I was silently banned. I was banned from Nollywood by marketers because they were the mini-gods of the industry at the time. They banned me because I was trying to do things differently; I just felt like it got to a point where if you want to acquire the services of an actor, it is best to talk to their management about it,” Rita Dominic said.
