The news of Koffi Olomide’s highly anticipated Legende Tour getting canceled in Kenya has a lot of Kenyans scratching the back of their heads not knowing what to do because the majority of them had plans to attend the show.
Koffi Olomide’s show was canceled officially by the Aces & Light Promotion which was the outfit that was bringing the Congolese maestro to the country.
According to the official public statement that they’ve since shared online, Aces and Light canceled the Koffi Olomide’s highly anticipated show without getting into details about why they decided to cancel the concert altogether.
“It is in keeping with the wisdom of ensuring quality, quantity, and palatability that Aces and Light have decided to take a hiatus in the efforts to host the much-anticipated concert by the legendary Congolese musical act Quartier Latin International Orchestra led by Mopa, Koffi Olomide.
This hiatus shall enable Aces and Light to better organize our planned concerts or to ensure it meets the expectations of all music lovers amongst the Kenyan music connoisseurs,” the public statement by Aces and Light read in part.
As it turns out, there was a reason behind Koffi Olomide’s cancellation of his highly anticipated Legende Tour, and we have it exclusively right here.
The reason why Koffi Olomide’s Kenyan tour was canceled goes back 5 years ago, in 2016 when he jetted in the country with his 21 band members and his lead singer Cindy Le Coeur who is believed to be his girlfriend as well.
If your memory serves you right, back in 2016 is the same time that Koffi Olomide made headlines as soon as he landed in Nairobi, Kenya by slapping one of his female dancers after she had a minor misunderstanding with Cindy Le Coeur.
After the aforementioned altercation, Koffi who was fully booked for a performance by Nsana Promotions didn’t get to perform but he was deported back to Congo by the Kenyan government the next day after his Citizen TV interview.
Koffi Olomide who was fully booked for his show by Nsana Promotions was fully paid his 3 million performance fee but never performed for his loyal fans who paid a huge sum of money to see him perform live on stage.
Nsana Promotions spent roughly 10 million shillings for facilitating Koffi Olomide’s 2016 tour that never came to fruition because of his misconduct.
Here’s the breakdown of the money spent on Koffi Olomide and his entire entourage on his 2016 anticipated show that never came to happen:
-
- Ksh.3 million performance fee
- Ksh. 2.9 million in air tickets(2 business class tickets for himself and Cindy Le Coeur) and 21 economy tickets for his band.
- Ksh. 2 million was paid for a 3 days’ stay at Kempinski but Koffi Olomide and his entourage only got to stay for 2 days.
- TVC(television commercial) cost for the concert was KSh. 800,000.
- Local transport was Ksh. 200,000.
- Venue hire(Bomas of Kenya) was Ksh. 600,000.
- Equipment hire cost was Ksh.1.5 million.
- There were also other incidentals like for instance; all the advance tickets purchased had to be refunded, the cost of the already printed tickets that were to be sold at the entrance, and security among other things.
According to a reliable source very close to Nsana Promotions, Koffi Olomide is yet to reimburse the promotion the amount spent on him 5 years ago, and thus, that’s the reason why Koffi Olomide’s show was canceled.
This writer was told by the reliable source –who chose to remain anonymous at this time– that Koffi Olomide was to be served by a Court order by a Lawyer engaged by Nsana Promotions barring him from performing in the country in the booked show which he was already paid for (he was allegedly paid Ksh. 5 million) the Legende Tour as soon as he landed in the country for the show.
Koffi Olomide didn’t land!
Nsana Promotions’ efforts of trying to recoup their money from the Congolese legendary singer and songwriter in the past 5 years have been futile over the years.
According to Koffi Olomide, the reason/s why he hasn’t reimbursed the promotion for the past 5 years is because he believes the Kenyan government is at fault and as such, they’re the one liable for reimbursing the 10 million spent on him for his 2016 concert.
“I came to Kenya and was ready to perform, but it’s the Kenyan government that denied me the chance. He’s not my fault, I can’t return yet I came ready to perform and was stopped,” Koffi Olomide told off the Nsana Promotion who were looking for their reimbursement from the artiste after the failed show.
So there you have it, the Koffi Olomide’s concert was barred from happening by Nsana Promotions which is owned by Jules Nsana over the aforementioned monies that he owes the company.
There’s a possible reason to believe that Koffi Olomide had inside information of getting barred from performing and getting deported or better yet be detained as soon as he landed in Kenya until the company recouped their money.
The Koffi Olomide’s ‘Legende Tour’ concert was slotted to go down on the 11th December 2021 at the Waterfront Mall in Karen, Nairobi.
The tickets were going for Ksh.3,500 for the gallery, Ksh.7000 for VIP and Ksh.10,000 for VVIP.
The tickets sold for the ‘Legende Tour’ would be refunded in full as promised by Aces and Light.
