DP Ruto supporters have castigated Nairobi County MCS who passed the motion enabling them to rename Mbagathi Way to Raila Odinga Way.
The road was renamed after the ODM party leader on Thursday night.
In the signpost, there were two sides one written Langata road showing directions to the estate and the other Raila Odinga Way indicating the Mbagathi Way.
But some Ruto supporters who do not even recognize that it was Raila Odinga who in 2005 commissioned the construction of Mbagathi Way using concrete are in the opinion that Raila just like Atwoli has done nothing important to merit him to be immortalised on such an important fracture.
Writing on Twitter, Kip says “When will our heroes and heroines gets such recognitions? Kipchoge, Kadenge, Catherine Ndereba etc. All made Kenya proud at some point, but as you can see, dynasties kwanza.”
Tim claimed, “It shows the immaturity of our elite that every road should be named after a “personality”. In fact there should be a law banning roads from being named for politicians except dead Presidents to try and wean Kenyans off our personality cult mentality.”
And Mtu wa Ruto wrote, “Stupidity of the highest order. It was Atwoli, then Raila – what next ? Indications that if these goons are elected next year, then Nairobi will also be renamed after themselves. Bure Kabisa.”
This is the fourth road to be renamed this year in Nairobi county.
In March, Eastleigh First Avenue lane was renamed Mohammed Yusuf Haji Avenue in honour of the Garissa senator who died in February.
Kapiti Crescent Road in South B was renamed after football legend Joe Kadenge and Accra road was renamed after former Ford Asili party leader Kenneth Matiba (deceased).
In May, Nairobi Deputy Governor Ann Kananu renamed Dik Dik Road in Kileleshwa after Francis Atwoli, the veteran trade unionist.
However, the post bearing Atwoli’s name was pulled down several times, tyres were thrown around it and set ablaze.
