Prominent Kenyan Personalities You Didnt Know Were Teachers

Teachers are one of the professionals known for living a low-key kind of life. However, some of them have managed to move away from the low-key life to become public figures.

In this article, we are going to look at some of the teachers who have become popular among Kenyans either through the change of careers or exceptional work.

Here are some of the public figures who were once teachers.

Danstan Omari

Before becoming one of the top lawyers he is today, Dunstone Omari was a high school teacher.

The lawyer-cum-political analyst was posted to teach at Kiabonyuro Secondary School in Nyamira back in 1992.

After teaching for 10 years, Dunstone moved back to the university to pursue a degree in Law at the University of Nairobi.

Since switching to law, lawyer Dunstone has presented high-profile names including Deputy President William Ruto in the corridors of justice. He also became the first lawyer to defend a divorce case on live TV.

Rachel Ruto

Just like other wives of prominent leaders including Ida Odinga (Raila Odinga’s wife), Magaret Kenyatta (President Uhuru’s wife), and Lucy Kibaki (wife of former president Mwai Kibaki), Rachel Ruto is also a teacher. Though there is no history of where she might have taught, the country’s second lady is a teacher by profession.

Rachel pursued a degree in Education from Kenyatta University.

Alex Mathenge

In most cases, you will find in police uniforms something that has been some Kenyans to be a real police officer, but in a real sense, he is not. Comedian Alex Mathenge is actually a teacher by profession.

Speaking to comedian Jalang’o on Jalang’o TV, Alex revealed that she did a Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Kenyatta University but changed to content creation where his passion was.

Sospeter Ojaamong

Before joining politics in 1992, Busia County Governor Sospeter Ojaamong was a teacher by profession. He taught at Obucuum Primary School before joining Kenyatta University to pursue a Bachelor of Education Science degree.

After graduating from the university, the county boss was deployed at Moding Secondary where he taught for three years. At the school, he rose through the ranks to become its Deputy Principal, a post he held for a year before resigning to join politics.
