Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has come out to categorically state that he will not in any way whatsoever support Deputy President’s presidential ambitions ahead of the August 2022 general elections despite the two of them being quite close.
Speaking yesterday, Museveni made it clear that his country would maintain a policy of being neutral in foreign elections noting that Uganda has indeed suffered due to external interference by other countries.
“The elections in Kenya or any other country is a matter of the people of that country.
Those people are the ones who are competent in deciding what to do. Supporting Ruto, we’ll never do anything like that.
We shall never take sides,” he said answering the question of if he will support DP Ruto’s presidential ambitions.
This comes as a shock because William Ruto and Yoweri Museveni are allies, some would even say that they’re close of friends to some extent.
Deputy President William Samoei Ruto campaigned for Yoweri Museveni’s presidential bid in the 2016 and 2021 presidential elections for his National Resistance Movement(NRM).
A few months ago, DP Ruto was blocked from traveling to Uganda by the government to meet up with President Yoweri Museveni on a trip that was full of mystery, to say the least.
The intent of the visit was also meted with cloudy reasons since it was a top-secret between DP Ruto and President Museveni.
Allied forces close to ODM Party leader Raila Odinga had questioned the relationship between DP Ruto and Museveni deeming their relationship very suspicious and reeks of something sinister.
