Kesses Member of Parliament Swarup Mishra surprised a section of unemployed youths in his constituency in Eldoret with motorcycles.
Mishra donated up to 250 motorcycles worth roughly Kshs25 million on Thursday, October 28.
Speaking at the event where he handed the young men the motorcycles, Mishra said that the gifts will enable them to venture into the transport business.
About 500 youths benefitted from the donation. The lawmaker is targeting to issue motorcycles to 2000 youths by next month.
Mishra also said that he has planned to issue beehives, incubators, salon equipment, cyber cafe equipment, public address systems, event organising equipment and agricultural inputs to another 30,000 people.
“We gave the 250 motorbikes totally free. That is our bodaboda program for our constituency. As you know we have done empowerment programs for youths, women and the elderly,” Mishra said.
One of the beneficiaries said that the motorcycle will help him feed his family.
“I had been employed by someone to operate his bodaboda but now I am my own boss. It will help me feed my family,” the beneficiary said.
Mishra further said that he would utilize resources at his disposal be it from the government or personal to empower locals of Kesses while reminding the youth about the importance of pulling together and being safe on the road to avoid accidents.
“Being in a cooperative movement is one of the easiest ways of getting financial support from the government,” he said.
Mishra announced that he would soon give 25 small tractors to farmers free of charge in order to scale up food production in the region
