“Hio Ni Joto Ya Graduation” MP Ngunjiri Explains Why GSU Graduates Should Not Be Punished

Nyeri Town MP Wambugu Ngunjiri claims that it will be out of order to punish GSU officers who were captured on a video threatening Kenyans.

The group of officers that were threatening Kenyans were part of those who graduated on Wednesday December 8 from the National Police College Embakasi B Campus  and were leaving the training camp.

“Mmmeishaa..tutawamaliza…sisi ndio wale wasee…hapana tambua…tunakuja inje…sisi ndio wa pa pa pa,” the graduates said in the video that was widely shared on Social media.

The National Police Service responded to the clip saying that measures will be taken against the officers.

“An internal review is ongoing with a view of preferring appropriate measures regarding the incident. GSU is renown for its focused training aimed at producing highly disciplined and responsible officers,” NPS said in a statement released on Wednesday evening.

Ngunjiri however said that it would be wrong to punish the officers since they undergo a difficult time while locked up in camps.

“The young men shown in that clip have been locked in an intensive multi-month-long training & re-socializing program that essentially turns them from ordinary Kenyans, into soldiers. They will shout and scream. I’m sure it happens at every graduation from the intensive security training,” the MP said.

According to Nginjiri, such remarks are made in every graduation and it is just that those of yesterday got unlucky by recording themselves.

“Give the young men a break. Hiyo ni joto ya graduation and it will end pretty fast out here. Plus they didn’t do any harm to anyone. They are just kids who made it through a tough school,” he said.
