Former Education CS Prof George Magoha Is Dead

Prof George Magoha, the former Cabinet Secretary for Education, has died.

Magoha passed away at the Nairobi Hospital on January 24, about 5:30 p.m. Age-wise, he was 71.

His family says that he experienced a cardiac arrest while being treated at the Nairobi Hospital.

James Nyamongo, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, confirmed the death and said that the former CS passed away soon after arriving at the facility.

From 1997 to 2013, the highly decorated Urologist by training, presided over the Kenya Association of Urological Surgeons (KAUS).

At Lagos University Teaching Hospital, he began his surgical career as an intern. Prof., worked his way up to become a Senior Resident and a Clinical Lecturer in Surgery.

Additionally, he worked as a Consultant Surgeon in several prestigious hospitals in Lagos, Nigeria, as well as a Lecturer for the same hospital.

Prof. Magoha started working at the University of Nairobi in 1988 as a Lecturer in Urological Surgery and worked his way up to full Professor of Surgery in 2000.

He held the position of CS for Education until October 27, 2022, when Ezekiel Machogu took over under President William Ruto.

On January 17, he was hired as a Professor of Surgery at the school of medicine at Maseno University in Kisumu County.
