The National Police Service (NPS) has launched investigations after a pedestrian, described as a middle-aged white man, was knocked down and killed by a speeding vehicle in President William Ruto’s convoy along Ngong Road.

The incident occurred on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Adams Arcade near Green House Mall.

According to eyewitnesses, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the busy road when one of the vehicles in the motorcade struck him, killing him on the spot.

President Ruto’s convoy was en route from Lang’ata to Kibra for the commissioning of a project.

In a statement, the NPS confirmed that the pedestrian was hit by a government vehicle and assured the public that investigations are underway.

“Following a road traffic accident that occurred today at Adams Arcade along Ngong Road involving a government vehicle, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian who is a foreign national, the National Police Service (NPS) is now handling the matter, and investigations have commenced,” the statement read in part.

The police urged anyone with information related to the incident to report to the nearest police station or contact them through the toll-free numbers: 999, 911, 112, and #FichuakwaDCI 0800 722 203.

Videos and images shared on social media showed a crowd gathering at the scene as authorities arrived to cordon off the area.

Witnesses raised concerns after the motorcade reportedly failed to stop following the fatal incident.

The deceased’s body was eventually transported to the City Mortuary, where it awaits an autopsy.

The NPS also called on motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution on the roads to prevent similar accidents.

This incident comes a day after reports emerged of youths allegedly stealing from motorists during President Ruto’s visit to Ruaraka and Mathare.

Eyewitnesses claimed that as the President concluded his speech, some attendees turned to crime, targeting motorists and passengers stuck in traffic along Thika Road.

The police have not provided a timeline for the conclusion of the investigation but assured the public of transparency in handling the matter.
