Victoria Rubadiri is set to leave Royal Media Services-owned Citizen TV, and details about her replacement are already out.
According to Buzzroom Kenya, the well established journalist is heading for BBC. Her exact departure date is yet to be established but it is alleged that she has already served her employers with a notice.
“Following the deployment, BRK has learnt that plans are rife to poach seasoned journalist Olive Burows from Nation Media’s NTV to fill Vicky’s gap at Citizen TV,” Buzzroom Kenya reported on Friday.
Rubadiri joined Citizen TV in May 2018 after exiting NTV. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Temple University Philadelphia.
In August 2021, she took a 3-month leave from Citizen TV, to attend to a 3-month training at BBC London. This came after she won the Komla Dumor Award in 2020.
“I am excited at the prospect of learning new skills at the BBC to be able to connect with audiences locally, regionally and internationally, no matter on which platform the story is being told,” she said after receiving the award in 2020..
Rubadiri joins a list of journalists who have left the station this year including political reporter Chemutai Goin, who left for a role at Moses Wetang’ula’s office.
She will also be joining her former colleague Waihiga Mwaura, who currently works for BBC Africa.
Waihiga left Citizen TV in May 2023 after 14 years.
