Brittany Jones, a Kenyan-American singer, has filed a lawsuit against socialite and musician Tanasha Donna, seeking over Ksh618,000 in compensation for breach of a music collaboration agreement.
Jones accuses Tanasha and Muema of failing to honor their agreement, which led to significant financial losses.
On November 11, 2021, Jones transferred USD 1020 (approximately Ksh130,355) to Muema via Mpesa as an initial payment for the collaboration.
The following day, Jones and Tanasha formalized their agreement. Tanasha was supposed to contribute a verse to their joint song, participate in the video shoot, help promote the song, and transfer all rights of the song to Jones.
In return, Jones agreed to pay Tanasha Ksh200,000 and cover all costs related to audio and video production. The payments to Tanasha were to be made in two installments: Ksh100,000 upfront and the remaining amount before the video shoot.
Despite Jones adhering to her side of the agreement, she claims Tanasha has shown no intent to fulfill her obligations for nearly three years, even after receiving a demand notice.
According to Jones’ lawyer, Tanasha has neither provided the agreed-upon verse nor participated in the video shoot planned to take place in Kenya.
Jones is now seeking reimbursement for USD 472.50 (Ksh60,385) spent on her airfare from Houston to Nairobi for the shoot. She is also demanding compensation of USD 3096.37 (Ksh396,000) for accommodation and other expenses incurred during her stay in Nairobi.
Additionally, Jones is looking to recover USD 250 (Ksh32,000) from Muema, accusing him of fraud and misrepresentation. Jones claims that Muema received clothes worth USD 250 from her, promising to refund the amount but failing to do so upon delivery.
In her lawsuit, Jones is asking the court to award her a total of USD 4838.87 (Ksh618,403) from Tanasha and Muema, along with any other compensation the court deems appropriate for the breach of contract.
