Akothee has shared that her relationship with her younger sister, Cebbie Koks Nyasego, remains strained.
Despite efforts, the two have yet to reconcile, and Akothee admits she is still unclear about the cause of their fallout.
Akothee, a mother of five, emphasized that before any reconciliation can happen, the issues behind their conflict need to be addressed.
“Forgiveness doesn’t mean reconciliation. I won’t get back with you if you don’t tell me where I went wrong because I might end up making the same mistake,” she said in a candid interview with The Nairobian.
Akothee highlighted the importance of resolving the root cause of the discord before moving forward.
The artist, known for her vibrant personality and public dramas, lamented that her fame often complicates her family dynamics.
“I am punished for being popular and having a personality. I was always told that you are a big person, big sister,” she added, suggesting that her status may have contributed to the tensions.
Despite the ongoing tension, Akothee expressed her deep love for her family, though she underscored the importance of setting boundaries to maintain peace and protect each other.
The feud between Akothee and her sister Cebbie, whose real name is Elseba Awuor Kokeyo, has been public for some time.
Last year, Akothee acknowledged a major rift within her family, accusing Cebbie of turning other family members against her.
She even suggested that Cebbie had influenced the family to downplay her April 2023 wedding, viewing it as a scheme to overshadow Cebbie’s own nuptials with lawyer Steve Ogolla in December 2022.
Reflecting on these events, Akothee revealed how this divide has led her to distance herself from her family.
“Slowly I began to separate myself, realizing who I am. In Luo, they are waiting for you the day you die… If I die today, the government will bury me. I am not just anyone else. My funeral will be bigger than my wedding,” she remarked.
Despite the challenges, Akothee mentioned that her relationship with her father remains strong, describing him as her “biggest fan.”
However, the reconciliation with her sister and other family members remains unresolved, as Akothee continues to seek clarity on the causes of their estrangement.
