Esther Akoth Kokeyo, popularly known as Akothee, has admitted that making it in the music industry is not a walk in the park.
The mother of five opened up on the frustrations in the sector saying that it is not for the faint hearted.
According to her, such situations have limited the number of female artists.
Music has shown me all characters of human nature. If I didn’t have money as a female artist,My Private parts would have suffered 🤔 I would have dropped music and maybe contracted diseases. Music is not for the faith hearted ,if they are not stealing from you,they are manipulating you ,if they are not manipulating you they are sleeping with you.
“And that’s why you see , very few female artists it’s tough out here.

Akothee’s sentiments are not different from those of other female, who have had their own fair share of similar frustrations especially from producers and other stakeholders.
“Just because you are a woman you are sexualized. For you to get to a certain level you need to go with this guys, there are people who don’t see you the way they see the male artists, they need to work hard but for us it is like you need to date so and so. Those are some of the challenges that have led to female artists quit the music scene in Kenya,” Nadia Mukami shared previously.
