Journalist Attacked By Gunmen After Covering Appointment Of Jacque Maribe, Loses Phone

Mwangi Muirui, a reporter at Nation Media Group, who interviewed Moses Kuria about the appointment of Jacque Maribe has been attacked.

Muiruri was attacked on Friday morning at around 5.30am by three gunmen who were driving in a white Mazda Demio, whose number plates had been concealed.

The gunmen, who were allegedly dressed in navy blue suits, accosted him at the intersection of the Nairobi-Nyeri-Embu road.

They robbed him Kshs2,000 and took his phone after demanding his passwords, leaving him with a bruised left eye.

The incident was reported at Makutano police station under the OB number 5/15/3/2024.

The incident however comes after Kuria threatened to sue Nation Media Group and Muiruri for writing a false story about him.

Kuria claimed the screenshot, which was provided as evidence of his communication with the writer, was forged.

“Contrary to reports by the Nation, I have never been interviewed by the media House nor made any comment nor announcement about Jacque Maribe. I have challenged CEO Stephen Gitagama to provide evidence from one Mwangi Muiruri who wrote the article.

“I have since alerted Mr Gitagama that the said screenshot is a forgery. And I will be at DCI Headquarters at 9.30am tomorrow to report the Nation Media Group and the reporter of fraud and forgery,” the CS shared on X.

“Meanwhile I stand with Jacque Maribe, my friend for the last 16 years and I will stand with her just like I stood with Gov Kawira Mwangaza in the wake of unjustified bullying,” he further stated.

Kuria’s response came after the Public Service Commission denied appointing Jacque.

In the screenshot of the message believed to have been written by Kuria, he confirmed Maribe’s appointment saying that it was done by the Public Service Commission and not him.
