32-Year Old Mother Receives Full University Scholarship 14 Years After Sitting For KCSE Exams

Milly Nafula, a 32-year old mother will now be able to pursue her dream of becoming a medical doctor 14 years after sitting her KCSE exams.

This is after Mt. Kenya University offered her full scholarship to study at the institution.

During the 20th graduation ceremony on Friday, MKU founder and chairman, Prof. Simon Gicharu said that the board of directors had agreed to fund Nafula’s education.

“I was touched when I saw her story on TV. I asked myself, how can we as Kenyans allow her to stay at home for so many years just because she was not admitted to a university,”

“I would like to inform this congregation that we will give a scholarship to her. This will enable her to actualize her dream,” Gicharu said.

Nafula’s plight was aired at Citizen TV on December 7 where she revealed that she sat for KSCE in 2007 at Manor High school in Kitale.

She was however not placed in any university by the Joints Admissions Board even though she scored an A-minus .

Her efforts to follow up the matter so that she could follow her dreams did not bear any fruits.

The mother of two resolved to work at a posho mill so that she could take care of her children.

The Kenya University and College Central Placements however said that Nafula was admitted to a university in 2008.

KUCCPS CEO Agnes Wahome said that Nafula was called to join Moi University so as to study  a Bachelor of Tourism Management course.

“KUCCPS has managed to trace the records of JAB and confirmed that Ms Nafula was indeed admitted to Moi University in 2008 to pursue a Bachelor of Tourism Management course. KUCCPS has made contact with the administration of Moi University with a view that the institution takes up the matter,” Wahome said.
