Why Karen Nyamu Was Not Allowed To Vote During Impeachment Trial Of Governor Kawira Mwangaza In Senate

Karen Nyamu was locked out of the voting process in Senate as other senators voted during Kawira ouster.

Senators voted to save embattled Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza. The process started on Wednesday afternoon and went all the way in the wee hours of Thursday, November 9, 2023.

The senators voted seven times because of the seven charges levelled against Kawira; Misappropriation and misuse of County resources, nepotism and related unethical practices, bullying, vilification and diminishing other leaders,  illegal appointments and usurpation of statutory powers, contempt of court, illegally naming a public road after her husband, and contempt of the assembly.

Kawira was to be impeached even if one charge against her was to be substantiated.

Voting yes meant the charge had been substantiated, nay meaning the charge had not been substantiated.

Before the voting, Karen Nyamu and other nominated senators were told to leave the chamber as only the 47 elected senators were allowed to vote.

The elected senators voted electronically and the majority of them voted against all the seven charges that Kawira faced.
