Rapper Juliani has been left emotional and speechless following reports that his Community Centre, Dandora Hiphop City, was bound for demolition on this Monday.
The one storey building has been targeted by the county government of Nairobi because of its proximity to Dandora River. This is in line with a directive that was issued by the ministry of Interior on all livelihoods and business located in riparian areas to vacate, to avert future tragedies that may result from flooding.
“The Nairobi Regional and County Security Teams are directed to work with the Nairobi City County Government and the Multi-agency Team under the auspices of the National Disaster Operation Centre (NDOC) to ensure the immediate vacation or mandatory evacuation of all persons within the 30-metre riparian land along the Nairobi Rivers (Mathare, Ngong and Nairobi Rivers), and thereafter oversee the removal of all buildings and structures within the riparian land as well as the planning corridor,” Interior CS Kithure Kindiki ordered earlier this mont.
In a statement on Dandora Hiphop City’s social media pages, Juliani asked fans to keep them in prayers, revealing that he acquired the building 7 years ago.
“Speechless and sad. Got news that our space will be demolished on Monday. We are 30 m close to the river, we have been in existence for the last 7 years. Kindly put us in prayersPhotos shared on the pages indicated that vacation activities were in progress .
Also on his personal Instagram account he wrote, “We are losing this building, our community centre is being demolished.”
Juliani further shared his frustrations on X.
“I got word that our community centre @DandoraHHC is being demolished. The whole 2-storey building. Yes, it’s close to a river. We purchased the building more than 7 years ago,” the father of two said.
