President Ruto has expressed his condolences and sadness over the untimely passing of renowned Gengetone music producer and artist, Byron Kivisi, popularly known as Byron Aaii Papii.
Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Ruto shared his grief and reflected on his first encounter with the talented producer during the recording session of the hit song “Sipangwingwi.”
Byron Kivisi’s sudden and tragic demise sent shockwaves throughout Kenya, deeply affecting his family, the music industry, and his devoted fans. The multi-talented creative genius was behind some of the biggest hits in the Kenyan entertainment scene, including “Sipangwingwi” and “Usherati.” His life was cut short by a fatal arterial rupture.
“Deeply saddened by the death of music producer and artist Byron Muhando Kivisi. Byron was first introduced to me by music sensation Xray during a music recording session of the hit song Sipangwingwi at the Deputy President’s residence in Karen,” Ruto said.
The President fondly remembered Byron’s calm and composed demeanor, which left a lasting impression. He attributed the late producer’s success to his exceptional talent.
“It is disheartening that we have lost Byron at a prime age. We are comforted by the fact that his works of art will live on. To the family, friends, and fans, accept our sincere condolences. Rest In Peace, Byron,” President Ruto added.

Byron Papi’s contributions to the music industry were immense, dominating the music charts and even finding their way into the political arena. “Sipangwingwi” was notably used by President Ruto during his 2022 election campaigns, underlining the cultural impact of Byron’s work.
