In a dazzling return to the stage, beloved Kenyan comedian Njugush hosted the fifth edition of his eagerly awaited stand-up show, “Through Thick and Thin” (TTNT 5), on Saturday, July 27, at Nairobi’s Sarit Expo Centre.
The event proved to be an overwhelming success, grossing over Ksh6 million from ticket sales alone, with overall earnings expected to soar when factoring in sponsorship deals and streaming revenues.
The excitement surrounding TTNT 5 was palpable, with tickets selling out a day before the event.
Njugush, who boasts a massive online following of 2.7 million on Instagram and 1.7 million on Facebook, updated his fans with a post that read, “Sold out. Note, no tickets at the gate,” underscoring the high demand for his annual comedy specials.
The Sarit Expo Centre, renowned for its versatile event spaces, offers three halls—Arabuko, Cherengani, and Loita—which can be combined into one expansive, column-free area spanning 3,311 square meters.
This configuration typically accommodates around 4,000 people in a theatre or concert setup, but for TTNT 5, Njugush managed to host a staggering 6,000 attendees.
Enhancing the event’s convenience, Njugush partnered with Shell to provide free transport from Nairobi’s CBD to the venue, ensuring fans could easily access the show.
Ticket prices were designed to be accessible, with student tickets priced at Ksh1,000, regular tickets at Ksh1,500, and VIP tickets at Ksh3,500.
Even if every attendee opted for the most affordable ticket, this would secure a minimum revenue of Ksh6 million.
For those unable to attend in person, an online streaming option was available for Ksh300, allowing more fans to enjoy the performance.
Sponsorships from notable brands, including Risiih Investments Ltd., Shell Kenya, and Jambojet, further bolstered Njugush’s earnings, making TTNT 5 not just a night of laughter but also a significant financial success.
