“Mi Ndio Gavana Wa Nairobi” Bahati Expreses Interest In Challenging Sakaja In 2027

Singer Bahati has expressed interest in Nairobi’s top seat come 2027 general elections.

The father if five will be seeking to unseat the current governor Johnson Sakaja, who will definitely be vying for his second and final term.

“Governor nayo nasimama 2027. Mimi ndio governor wa Nairobi,” he said, while turning down an interview from digital journalists.

Asked on whether he has money for the campaigns Bahati responded saying, ” The citizens have rejected those with money. They want people who can help them and I am that person.”

Bahati’s interest in governorship comes after he unsuccessfully vied for the Mathare MP in 2022. He vied on a Jubilee ticket, coming third after UDA’s Billion Ojiwa and ODM’s Anthony Oluoch.

Oluoch retained his seat after clinching 28,098 while Bahati got 8166 votes,

Last year in September, the musician revealed that he spent Kshs27 million in the 2022campaigns. According to him, he would have won if he had vied on UDA ticket.

“I don’t want to be tribal but Azimio never believed in young people, straight forward they never. William Ruto believed in me before anyone. He was the first one kujua this guy is vying and he supported me, shetani ni mbaya,” he said.

He further blamed Azimio over his loss because of the coalition’s decision to announce that he had stepped down 10 days to the election.

“10 days to elections, that was the worst day of my life. Nimeshikwa hivi mkono nimeambiwa utapewa kazi and that’s how everything changed. Because you know 10 days to election inamaanisha you only have like five days to campaign. So inamaanisha kuna watu wameenda home wakijua ata hauko kwa ballot. I don’t know ata nilitokea aje hio kura nilipata. I don’t really know, it’s a miracle,” Bahati said.
