A man has been sentenced to jail for three months for stealing fuel worth Kshs5000 at a petrol station in Nairobi.
Evans Kwoko Mwendwa was given an alternative of a Kshs10,000 fine for stealing fuel from Kilimani Ola petrol station.
The incident is said to have occurred on October 11, 2021.
According to the court documents, Mwendwa checked in at the Kilimani Ola Petrol station in Yaya center and asked for his vehicle to be fueled.
The accused then asked for the till number to pay for the services but failed to do so.
An attendant at the station informed him that the transaction had not gone through but Mwendwa immediately ignited his car and sped off.
The station’s manager reported the matter to the authorities after reviewing the CCTV footage where he was able to identify Mwendwa’s car number plate.
The police visited the station and also reviewed the CCTV footage which captured Mwendwa pretending to be paying for the fuel before escaping.
The car’s registration was widely circulated before the suspect was nabbed.
Mwendwa pleaded guilty to the charges against him before magistrate Tulei and asked the court to be lenient on him regarding his punishment since he was taking care of his young family.
