Actress Bwire Ndubi has passed away after a long battle with breast cancer.
According to a statement from her family, Ndubi passed away on September 5, 2024 while in Turkey where she was receiving treatment.
The family expressed gratitude to the those who have stood with them for the entire period, while to promising to share more details in due to course.
“It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance of God that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle to cancer on 5th September, 2024 while undergoing treatment in Turkey.
“We thank you for your overwhelming support, prayers and generous giving during her treatment. We will share more details in due course,” Ndubi’s family said.
Ndubi played the role of Dida in popular TV series Sultana. She has been battling cancer for over two years. It all started when she was experienced swellings in her armpits during her monthly periods. After the third encounter with the trend, she visited a gynecologist, marking a begin of her endless journeys to hospital.
“After a biopsy, I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a rare type of cancer that involves the presence of abnormal cells in a milk duct in the breast,” she said in a past interview.
In June 20, this year, expressed gratitude to those who have stood with her in the cancer treatment, shortly after returning to the country from Turkey.
“When we came back, I had just finished my day 5 of surgery to my brain. So it comes with side minor effects. We thank God, we are here, we alive and we have so much to be grateful.
“Thank you so much for walking this journey with me. You guys contributed and saw me get medical attention in Turkey.,” she said in a video shared on her social media.
She admitted that her time in Turkey was interesting even though her movement was limited due to sickness.
“The medical attention I got was really top notch and I am doing much better. The disease cleared in some of the areas. It is still present in some of the areas. I am doing well under medication,” she said adding that her next doctor appointment in Turkey was scheduled for three months.

Later in August, Ndubi made an emotional financial appeal to raise Kshs5 million for her medical and personal expenses during her stay in Turkey as she was to go back due to the side effects she was facing from her medication.
“You wouldn’t believe it—it has over 41 side effects, and you never know which one will hit. You experience some of them at different times, and it keeps changing,” she shared.
She said that doctors advised her to stop using the medication.
On August 28, she announced that she was in Turkey, with her mother, in a video she shared online.
“I have already seen my doctors, they are working out my treatment plan, I am going through a series of tests and we pulled this move because we decided it was smarter for us to stand treatment while the fundraisers are going on,” she said.

On August 31, her friends organized a fund drive for her, a move that left her speechless.
“I am failing to caption this because I am in a mess. Not enough to thank yous will ever suffice for the sacrifice, support, prayers and tears time and money you have accorded me. Dear humans, mubarikiwe sana,” the actress said.
Her death has left her family, friends and fans sad. May she rest in peace.
