John Matara pretended he was rich as he targeted women from wealthy backgrounds, violently robbing them.
The criminal was a tenant at Kahawa West where he rented a one-bedroom apartment even as he misled his targets into believing that he was very rich.
Matara paid Ksh12,000 a month for his Kahawa West apartment. The caretaker at the place said the criminal struggled to pay his rent.
Speaking to the press, the apartment caretaker Nicholus Mwangi paid Ksh10,000 for December rent, leaving him with Ksh2,000 arrears to clear.
That same December that Matara struggled to pay his rent, he violently attacked a female victim and robbed her of Ksh50,000.
The victim reported to the Makadara sub-county headquarters claiming that she fell victim to the suspect on Friday, December 29, 2023, days after meeting on a dating site.
After engaging in affectionate conversations for several days, they agreed to book a rental unit for a romantic night, with the lady reportedly requesting a payment of Sh15,000.
However, Matara turned against her at night and forced her to send him Ksh50,000.
“In the middle of the night, he started strangling me and even asked for my MPESA statements. He was trying to strangle me so much,” the woman said.
Five days after robbing the woman of Ksh50,000, Matara met Wahu Starlet at an Airbnb in South B for a night of fun that turned tragic.
Matara fatally stabbed Wahu as he was trying to rob her Ksh400,000.
Several other women have filed reports at various police stations narrating how Matara violently robbed them during nights of fun with him.
