Jacob Obunga Alias Otile Brown Reveals Why He Is Not Proud Of His Luo Heritage

Otile Brown is a Luo who hails from Kisumu county even though he was born and raised in Mombasa.

The singer recently opened up about his Luo roots while speaking during an interview with Massawe Japanni on Radio Jambo.

Otile explained that he has never been proud of his Luo heritage because of the boastful and flamboyant nature of Luo people.

“I used to hide that I am a Luo because of how proud they are. I sent someone Mpesa and they made sure that everybody knew I am Luo,” said Otile.

“Having been born in a Swahili community I did not want to associate with them because of tribalism and my talent is greater than that. We are five siblings, my parents are deceased,” he added.

Asked if he would ever sing in Luo, Otile said that he doesn’t have a good understanding of the Dholuo language.

“I feel for me to sing in Luo I must have a good understanding of the language.”
