Veteran rapper Prezzo sent shockwaves through the glitzy crowd at Bahati’s Empire reality TV show launch on May 6, 2024, when he unexpectedly collapsed during the high-profile event held at the Westwood Hotel.
The star-studded night, packed with celebrities and media personalities, even saw the presence of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
But what started as a glamorous evening quickly turned concerning as Prezzo experienced what many in the audience feared was a seizure.
Fast forward to August 21, and Prezzo finally spilled the tea on the alarming incident during an episode of his new podcast, Syllabus of Life, with fellow musician Bahati.
The conversation kicked off with some light-hearted jokes, but things got serious fast when Bahati addressed the “elephant in the room,” grilling Prezzo about his dramatic collapse at the launch.
In classic Bahati style, he joked, “Lakini kwa launch bana, I was like, President ameona Gachagua aka faint. What was wrong bana? Mi nimekuita bwana, the Deputy is coming; he has to be welcomed by the President! But the President is fainting! What’s wrong? You wanna leave power before your time?” Bahati teased, calling Prezzo by his affectionate nickname, “President.”
Prezzo was quick to set the record straight, assuring everyone that his collapse had nothing to do with the Deputy President’s presence.
He explained that he had been drowning in work commitments leading up to the launch.
“Wait, let me tell you. Hiyo siku mbele ya mwenyezi mungu, you had told me one week before. Bahati knows me very well to an extent whereby if there is a function he has to tell me a week in advance and during that week he has to call me every day kunikumbusha,” Prezzo shared.
He added that he was busy at work just before the event and only remembered the important date at the last minute.
Bahati couldn’t resist a playful dig, admitting he initially wondered if Prezzo’s collapse was a move to steal his spotlight at the launch.
He said, “Eh, I was like, alafu kidogo kidogo there was a lot of pressure, so the next day I’m like I’m selling my show, why is Prezzo trying to take my shine? Because you were trending at the top. I was like, na hii ni stori gani sielewi.”
Prezzo shut down any rumors that his collapse was a publicity stunt, stressing that the seizure took him completely by surprise while he was in the middle of a red carpet interview.
“Kuna watu wengi walisema ilikuwa publicity stunt. But when you look at that clip, when we got there because of the Deputy President, there was a protocol. So I allowed everyone to enter because I knew you had allocated me a seat. So, when everybody was seated, the red carpet kwa that interview ndo seizure ikanipata. Mimi sina history ya kifafa,” he clarified.
After the incident, Prezzo made sure to get checked out by doctors, who gave him a serious wake-up call about the dangers of overworking.
“They told me I am overworking myself. You know at the end of the day, bora I showed up,” he reassured fans, letting them know he’s on the road to recovery.
