Controversial gospel artist Ringtone Apoko has candidly shared the reasons behind his recent venture into TikTok and his decision to promote gospel messages on the platform.
In a heartfelt video, Ringtone revealed that the freezing of his bank accounts by government authorities plunged him into financial turmoil and depression.
Speaking through his TikTok account, Ringtone explained the painful circumstances he faced, describing moments of desperation.
“Last year, before December, I was so hopeless, I was so desperate. My bank accounts had been blocked by a department of police alleging a lot of criminal stuff. So I didn’t have money,” he recounted.
The gravity of his situation was clear as he revealed the challenges of finding food, sometimes surviving on nothing but avocados.
Reflecting on those tough times, Ringtone shared, “By December, I was eating avocados because I thank God where I live, there are avocados. They were falling from the trees. I was eating avocados for breakfast, lunch, and supper, until even my dogs were eating avocados. If I managed to get money to buy flour, I would make ugali, and the water would go to my dogs, and I’d eat ugali with avocado.”
In light of these struggles, Ringtone made the pivotal decision to join TikTok, yearning for a platform to share his story and connect with Kenyans.
He expressed gratitude for how TikTok has transformed his life, helping him combat his depression.
The support he received through the platform, in the form of gifts from followers, allowed him to purchase meals and regain a sense of stability.
He praised TikTok users for their role in his journey, stating, “TikTok has changed my life. I appreciate all the TikTokers for helping me heal from depression.”
Speaking fluently in English, Ringtone’s message resonated with many as he highlighted the power of community and connection during challenging times.
