A woman in the UK, Monica Almeida who is 37 years old is very much happy and counting her blessings after waking up from a 28-days-long coma.
The fully vaccinated nurse was fully vaccinated against the novel coronavirus prior to her getting spending 28 days in a COVID-19 coma fighting for her life.
She was admitted to a hospital on November 9, 2021, after she tested positive for COVID-19 on October 19, 2021. She had lost the sense of smell and taste in the four days she was admitted. Monica Almeida’s case worsened as she began to cough blood and her oxygen levels dropped drastically.
She was moved into the ICU(Intensive Care Unit) as her condition worsened in Lincoln County Hospital. She was induced to a coma officially on November 6, 2021.
On the 14th day of December 2021, she finally woke up after the medics unanimously agreed upon giving her a large dose of viagra which was an experimental drug on a COVID-19 patient.
It’s reported that Monica Almeida was 1 mere 72 hours away from having her ventilator turned off when he condition started to improve.
Almeida is positive that the erectile dysfunction drug viagra helped her regain consciousness after the doctors at Lincoln County Hospital revealed that she was given a large dose of the drug.
“It was definitely the Viagra that saved me. Within 48 hours it opened up my airwaves and my lungs started to respond. If you think about how the drug works, it expands your blood vessels. I have asthma and my air sacs needed a little help,” the nurse told The Sun.
“I had a little joke with the consultant after I came round because I knew him. He told me it was the Viagra, I laughed and thought he was joking, but he said ‘no, really, you’ve had a large dose of Viagra’,” she added.
Prior to her going under for the 28 days medically, she had signed a legal document that authorized the doctors to use her in any and/or all experimental drugs on their disposal that might help her medical situation.
Thanks to the drug that according to reports, scientists around the world are now experimenting with whether it can be used to increase the oxygen levels in the blood, Monica Almeida got to spend the holiday season with her family. She was discharged on Christmas Eve.
“I could have been gone at just 37 years old, but I suppose I was a bit of a monkey and kept on fighting,” she said.
She’s expected to make full recovery in a couple of months ahead.
