Donald Kipkorir was awarded a whopping Ksh1.3 billion in one of the highest legal fees awarded in Kenya’s litigation history.
The flamboyant city lawyer was awarded the money for defending the Nairobi County government against the Ministry of Defence in a case involving the parcel of land where Embakasi barracks stands.
The Environment and Land Court ruled that Kipkorir should be paid Ksh1.338 billion for representing the defunct Nairobi city council in the case that was in court for close to 10 years.
Nairobi city council sued the Ministry of Defence in 2012 for forcibly taking over the 3,000-acre Embakasi barracks which is valued at Ksh61.5 billion.
The plaintiff however withdrew the case in June 2021 without the involvement of Kipkorir triggering another litigation.
Nairobi County government wanted to pay Kipkorir Ksh400 for his service. However the flamboyant lawyer was demanding to be paid slightly over a billion shillings.
Kipkorir’s will ultimately prevailed as court ruled in his favour awarding him Ksh1.3 billion.
The city lawyer took to social media to express his joy after court awarded him the huge sum.
“God’s Time is the Best Time. When the Heavens Opens its Blessings. Those that worship Baal go into delirium.
No one can stop what the Heavens has decreed. Before we were formed in the womb. God knew us & had imprinted us on the palms of His Hands. I give Glory & thanks to God,” he tweeted.
