Finally, Migori, Kakamega, Kitale To Resume Flights

Flights to Migori, Kitale, and Kakamega airstrips are expected to resume sooner rather than later. The airstrips are expected to become operational by March.

The flights which are a way of boosting the tourism and travel of the region come after the completion of rehabilitation works that saw the three airstrips remain closed for the past year.

It’s reported that the Kenya Airport Authority(KAA) has spent Ksh310 million in an effort of upgrading the Lichota Airstrip in Migori, Ksh174million for Kakamega, and Ksh221 million for the Kitale Airstrip.

The Kitale Airstrips will be monumental in promoting transportation of horticultural products while the Migori and Kakamega Airstrips will be key in the promotion of tourism and travel in the region.

According to reports, the Kakamega Airstrip is currently being upgraded to accommodate larger aircraft. This move will help decongest Kisumu International Airport.

“The rehabilitation works at airstrips are complete. The one in Kakamega will accommodate medium-range aircraft with a capacity of 40 passengers,” said KAA Western region manager Selina Gor.
