Comedian Eric Omondi has dismissed allegations that his younger brother, fellow comedian Fred Omondi, was a victim of foul play.
Fred Omondi was interred at the family residence in Sega, Siaya County, two weekends ago, following his death in a tragic road accident in Nairobi.
The aftermath of Fred’s death saw a flurry of rumors, with some suggesting he had been murdered.
Eric Omondi, 40, has now provided clarity, confirming that his brother’s death was the result of injuries sustained when the boda boda motorcycle he was riding collided with a public service vehicle.
“When the accident occurred, good Samaritans rushed Fred to the hospital, where he was quickly identified due to his public profile. However, the boda boda driver, who was also transported to the hospital, was left without identification and registered as an unidentified patient,” Eric explained in an interview.
Eric noted that this misidentification led to confusion and speculation. By the time Fred’s body was collected from the accident scene, the boda boda driver’s body had already gone missing.
“This situation sparked rumors because the boda boda rider, Mutiso, was not immediately found when Fred was identified, which led to various theories. In truth, Mutiso, like Fred, died on impact. His family searched for him for three days as he was listed as a missing person. The incident was a tragic accident, not a case of foul play,” Eric emphasized.
Mutiso was laid to rest two days before Fred in his home village in Machakos.
