DJ Krowbar has opened up about his wife Wanjiru Karumba’s ongoing struggle with kidney failure, sharing an emotional update during an interview with media personality Kalondu.
Wanjiru has been fighting bravely against her condition, while DJ Krowbar has remained steadfastly by her side throughout this trying period.
Last September, he made a heartfelt public appeal for help in raising funds for her medical treatments.
Sadly, despite their persistent efforts, Wanjiru has yet to undergo the crucial kidney transplant due to recurring infections.
“My wife is still coping. She was supposed to have her transplant, but we’ve attempted it a few times this year without success. Unfortunately, infections keep coming up, and you can’t proceed with a transplant if there are infections in the body. We are trying again for the fifth time this year,” Krowbar told Kalondu.
Navigating this challenging journey has imparted valuable life lessons to DJ Krowbar, who reflected on the difficulties of caring for a loved one with a serious illness.
He emphasized that the experience has brought his family closer.
“The experience has taught me that I’m not as strong as I thought I was. Thank God for therapy and a good community of friends. It’s a tough journey; it’s not for everyone. But we’ve grown stronger over time—me, my wife, and even the kids,” he shared.
Krowbar also discussed the significant impact Wanjiru’s illness has had on their children, who have had to adapt to their mother’s condition.
“There’s one thing my kids learned in therapy: three things are guaranteed in life. Someone around you will get sick, someone around you will die, and you will start life all over again. Two of those things have happened—someone in their life is sick, their mother is sick, and they’ve had to start life all over again, moving to South Africa and coming back,” he explained.
He expressed pride in the resilience his children have displayed, noting that they have developed a thicker skin and a sense of grace through these tough times.
“They have grown some thick skin over this—mad grace. I don’t know how God is going to use that skill they’ve acquired in their life at some point,” he reflected.
As a devoted father, DJ Krowbar has taken on the responsibility of helping his children cope with their mother’s illness.
He acknowledged that they have made things easier for him by managing themselves and each other.
“I have three kids. With the first child, you parent the most. It’s like kids get to a point where they parent themselves. I’m in a space where I’m raising kids, but they’re also raising themselves,” Krowbar said.
He expressed gratitude for the maturity and resilience his children have shown in the face of adversity, even as they continue to navigate the complexities of their mother’s health challenges.
