Former Harambee stars striker Dennis Oliech has said that he will run away from Kenya without a second thought if another opportunity presents itself.
According to Dennis who spoke during an interview, Kenya does not appreciate talent neither does it have a regard for its heroes like him.
“If I were given the chance right now, I would take it because Kenya does not appreciate its heroes,” Said Dennis Oliech.
For the first time, Dennis Oliech seized the opportunity to open up on why he has always rejected many interviews with top most media stations. Apparently, he has a communication problem because of his stammering nature, which has always hindered him from speaking confidently.
“I am a stammerer. I have battled this problem ever since I was in primary school. It was only after I started gaining fame as a grown up that I saw it was necessary to step up because I knew I was going to do many interviews. That meant that I had to over my stammering problem. However, that’s why I don’t do many interviews,” he said.
He also recalled how it was always difficult for him when he was growing up since even interacting with girls of his age was a big issue given how he was speaking.
As a result, he admitted that he suffered and still suffers from low self esteem.
“I didn’t like talking much because I wasn’t articulate, and this affected me,” he added.
At some point, the veteran footballer rejected an enticing opportunity to change his citizenship from Kenya to Qatar. He had been given huge financial offers running into millions of dollars on condition that he accepted to change his citizenship and play for the gulf country.
This move was seen as a sign of patriotism by Dennis Oliech because he was not ready to change his citizenship just to gain financially.
He also opened up on his first salary while he was in form two. By then, he was playing for the Kenya Premier League side Mathare united which paid him 18,000 Kenya shillings.
Being a young talented man, he later found himself being sought after by mainstream media stations in a bid to give interviews but he always rejected them because of his stammering nature.
