Afadhali Fundi Wa Mjengo! Uproar, Anger As PRISK Pays Artists Peanuts As Royalties

Artists are up in arms after Performer Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) sent them mediocre amount of money through M-Pesa.

Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP), Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK), and Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) are mandated to collect and distribute royalties on behalf of the Kenyan artistes registered with them.

The three collective management organizations (CMOs) are however notorious for paying artists meagre royalties.

Artists over years have been accusing the three CMOs of distributing lesser amounts of royalties than what they collect.

The script is the same this year, PRISK sparked uproar and anger after distributing royalties to artists through M-Pesa.

KRG The Don, Nonini, Wangechi are among artists who openly criticized PRISK over peanut pay. They were all paid a flat rate of Ksh1,215 through M-Pesa.

“????? Sasa tumeongezewa hadi billions………. Nani anataka loan coz zile pesa tulikua tunangoja zimefika!!! Our President we are so proud of you!!” KRG The Don made a sarcastic comment after PRISK sent him Ksh1,215.
