Mary Biketi first met Cooperatives and MSMEs Development CS Wycliffe Oparanya at Wilson Airport. Both of them were heading to Kisumu and even happened to be seat mates. They interacted but their relationship didn’t begin on that flight. However, the flight was the beginning of their beautiful destiny and fast forward, she became Oparanya’s youngest wife.
Biketi opened up about this in a recent interview with a local radio station where she shared some interesting facts about Oparanya. One of the things is that the former Kakamega County governor is a responsible dad.
“People judge him a lot when it comes to women, but he is a good man,” she said.
Secondly, Oparanya has empowered his women such that they don’t depend on him.
“People think that am sponsored, that without waziri I don’t have a life but I want people to know that I run my business, I pay my own bills. Yes, he is the one who financed my business but am the one running the business. As much as he is there, I also pay for my bills,” she said, dispelling claims that she is squandering taxpayer’s money.
“Those even saying so they don’t have jobs and don’t pay taxes,” Biketi added.
According to her, it is not a big deal when he misses important days in his wives’ lives.
“He has really empowered us such that there are things going on in our lives. We don’t depend on him fully. If you get time with him its fine, if you aren’t together it is also fine,” she said adding that there is nothing she struggles with.
Thirdly, his openness about his polygamous nature and Biketi is comfortable with it, such that even though she would miss his presence when he is with her co-wives, she knows that he is fine.
“I am okay I know he is okay wherever he is but as a woman, you will have some kind of feelings, I always keep myself busy, what else is there to do. I am used to it,” she said. “I knew he is polygamous and it is allowed. I am comfortable.”
Finally, Biketi painted Oparanya as a free man. According to her, they both access each other’s phones as they don’t have anything to hide. When she finds women eyeing him she blocks them. She said that despite Oparanya being polygamous, she is his youngest and last wife, and wouldn’t allow any other woman into their lives.
“I block, in-house its okay. Those outside should remain there, after me never,” she affirmed.
She however noted that Oparanya assured her that he wouldn’t add another woman.
