Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has sparked significant debate by labeling Kenyan Generation Z as “foolish,” a bold statement that follows her recent public backlash.
This critique comes shortly after her behavior at Raila Odinga’s launch for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship bid at State House drew sharp criticism from social media users.
During the event, attended by esteemed guests including President William Ruto, Nyamu was seen greeting other attendees while casually sucking on a lollipop.
Many deemed this conduct inappropriate for such a high-profile occasion, leading to wave of online disapproval.
In response to the backlash, Nyamu has turned her attention to Generation Z, expressing her annoyance in a video that has since gone viral.
She criticized their priorities, suggesting they were misguided in their focus. “Gen Zs ni mafala sana (Gen Zs are so foolish),” she stated, calling out the younger generation for squandering opportunities to address more pressing issues.
Nyamu pointed to a recent engagement where young people had the chance to interact directly with President Ruto.
According to her, instead of seizing this moment to discuss significant topics such as job creation and skill development, they chose to critique her character.
“You get the attention of the whole country, from the President to the media, and when you’re given a platform to speak, you only complain about me being arrogant or talk about Murkomen. How does that improve your lives?” Nyamu remarked.
She further emphasized that this missed opportunity was detrimental to the youth.
“You were called to the table, and the President gave you the space to speak. Instead of addressing how your lives could be improved, all you could say was that Karen Nyamu is arrogant.”
Nyamu urged Generation Z to focus on self-improvement and to make use of opportunities that could lead to positive outcomes.
She encouraged them to engage in constructive dialogues rather than merely following trends or seeking attention.
“You should have told the President how he can create jobs for you or provide training,” she advised.
“Focus on what will benefit you. Complaining about me or any other leader doesn’t help your situation.”
Through these comments, Nyamu hopes to inspire young people to shift their focus from personal grievances to actionable discussions that could foster better employment conditions and training opportunities, ultimately leading to improved living standards.
