In a heartwarming turn of events, former Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has followed through on his promise to transfer former NTV journalist Eunice Omollo to Mombasa Women’s Hospital rehabilitation center for further treatment of her psychological problems.
Omollo, who has been open about her struggles with depression and mental health issues, had been receiving treatment at Mathare Hospital in Nairobi.
However, Sonko, who is known for his philanthropic efforts, had pledged to transfer her to Mombasa for further treatment and support.
On Thursday, Omollo was released from Mathare Hospital and transferred to the Mombasa Women’s Hospital rehabilitation center, where she will receive specialized care and treatment for her mental health issues.
In a statement on Twitter, Sonko expressed his commitment to supporting Omollo’s recovery and thanked the Mombasa Women’s Hospital rehabilitation center for their cooperation and support.
“Depression is a serious health condition that is often caused by circumstances beyond one’s control,” Sonko wrote.
“As we promised during the Obina Show, we flew former NTV journalist Eunice Omollo to Mombasa for further treatment at Mombasa Women’s Hospital, where Conjestina Achieng is also being treated.”
Conjestina Achieng, a former boxing champion, has been undergoing treatment at the same rehabilitation center and has made significant progress in her recovery.
Omollo will be staying at a beach hotel in Mombasa for a week to continue her recovery.
In a video shared by Sonko, Omollo was seen expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to receive treatment and promising to get better after treatment.
“Thank you very much,” she said. “I am very grateful, thank you very much. I will be back soon.”
Omollo’s case has brought attention to the importance of mental health support in Kenya and has inspired many to speak out about their own struggles with mental health issues.
The transfer of Omollo to Mombasa Women’s Hospital rehabilitation center is a testament to the importance of providing access to quality healthcare services for those struggling with mental health issues.
