It may not be a walk in the park for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Amollo Odinga after Migori governor Okoth Obado made it clear that he will be running for the presidency come 2022.
Okoth Obado declared his interest in the wake of the court of appeal agreeing with the high court ruling by throwing out the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) appeal.
The Migori governor is known to be always taking an independent stand and openly challenging Raila Odinga in a number of issues. For instance, the two have been at loggerheads with regards to how the ODM party conducts unfair nomination.
Besides, the ODM party a few months ago wanted to impeach the Migori boss after he was accused of abetting corruption but the impeachment never saw light of day.
However, there are those who felt that Okoth Obado should not contest, given the criminal case currently facing him following the death of one Sharon Otieno and her unborn child.
“Governor Obado says he’s vying for President. For a country that voted for a God-chosen President and his God-fearing Deputy facing crimes against humanity at the ICC; surely someone who allegedly murdered a university student shouldn’t be difficult to elect. Difficultn’t it?” Tweeted one Gabriel Oguda.
A witness recently told the court that Okoth Obado’s PA was with the late Sharon Otieno inside the car which kidnaped her before her lifeless body was recovered at the famous Kodera Forest.
According to this witness, the PA whom he did not mention gave Sharon to the unknown killers after they left the Graca Hotel in Rongo masquerading that they were rushing to another meeting.
The court heard that the man reported the kidnapping to the police station (he is one of the state witnesses under protection.) However, this witness did not issue the details of this car which was involved in kidnapping.
While at Graca Hotel, Sharon was with the protected witness whom she shared her frustrations with. Apparently, the frustrations bordered on Migori governor Okoth Obado making her pregnant just one year into their love.
According to Nation,when the personal assistant arrived, he asked Sharon and her associate to change the venue of the meeting, Police Constable Willy Okoti told the court.
“The governor’s assistant told them to enter a car that was waiting outside the hotel, so that they can proceed to the new venue.” Added Nation.
Strangely, governor Okoth Obado’s PA alighted after 300 meters. He then called two strange men that were waiting by the roadside before the vehicle was driven towards Homabay.
Feeling scared by death threats, the protected witness jumped from the moving vehicle then later met a villager who directed him to Kadel police station at 9pm where he reported the matter.
Fast-forward, Sharon’s lifeless body would later be found dumped at Kodera forest.
